There is much to be said for sitting in the pew.
It is a place of peace and tranquility for many and not few.
You come to church each Sunday
A simple part of your weekly To Do sundry.
Engaging in a prayer or two
And dressed up in your Sunday best with all ado.
Do you know there’s much more to do…
Than there just sitting in the pew?
I am not talking about just going to church…
For God created a much bigger place here on this earth.
There you can sing, pray and rehearse
And hone the gifts God has given you to immerse.
There are doors to be opened…
And smiles to be shared with sweet friendly greeting
In the grocery store during a down-the-aisle meeting.
There are shared meals to plan and sweet letters to write…
And just popping in to say hello to a widow’s lonely life.
There are cookies to buy and monies to give
And time to partake with those in your life…
Not just for them but for you…
So you can live an abundant life!
There’s no time for your hiding behind a TV, a phone, a computer or a book…
And perhaps even the Bible when you know in your heart of hearts it’s a just a ploy
So that you don’t have to engage and perhaps enjoy…
What entirely God has to offer in His grand vision of you in His life.
He has put you on earth for a purpose… a divine calling… an abundant life.
Not drifting but purposeful, good measured actions and responses too
Through obedience, watchful eagerness to His calling through and through.
Sure… all in good measure each are needed and required…
But goodness and gentleness, mindfulness and wisdom, love and patience and kindness…
Does little good… unless it is shared with an open heart and an open hand
And an open generosity of those gifts shared with others of our earthly clan.
But all this goes well beyond us…
For it is all for His Glory… for His Praise… for His Honor…
For He who is watching over us.
